How to remove comments and track changes on your online tutorials

To view comments and track changes

When the tutor who worked on your "online tutorial" emails you back your writing project, you should be able to see comments and changes. If you cannot see these comments, go to the “Review” tab. In the “Tracking” section you will see three drop down menus to the right of “Track changes.” Set the top one to “All Markup.” Next, open the “Show Markup” menu below it and make sure all the boxes are checked. You should now be able to see the tutor's comments and track changes.

      Removing comments

Our tutors try to provide comments that will help you learn and grow as a writer. Their training requires them to provide you with feedback that will help you revise your essays in terms of ideas, content, and organization (the big picture), as well as grammar and punctuation (the details). You should read these comments carefully and decide which ones apply to your writing project. Remember, you are the writer and are ultimately responsible for the finished work. After you have revised your essay, you will want to remove the comments. Your instructors do not want to see these comments and may not accept your essay if you do not remove them.       To Remove Comments:

1.      Highlight the comment you want to remove
2.      Go to the “Review” tab at the top of the document (second from the right)
3.      Click “Delete” found in the “Comments” section of the “Review” tab.

      Track changes

These are the changes your tutor may make in the document. Please review these changes. A grammar error that a tutor “fixes” may not be a change you want to make. Also, you should learn from these changes. If a tutor corrects a grammar error, there may be similar errors elsewhere that she did not correct. Tutors are trained to work approximately ½ hour to 45 minutes on your paper, so they cannot fix everything. The ultimate responsibility lies with you, the student.

To Accept OR Reject Changes:
1.      Highlight the change the tutor has made
2.      Go to the “Review” tab at the top of the document (second from the right)
3.      If you want to accept the change, click “accept” change, found in the “Changes” section of the review tab.
4.      If you want to reject the change, click “reject” change, found in the “Changes” section of the review tab.
5.      Go through this step for each tracked change.

Note: You will want to make sure that “Track Changes” is turned off before you begin adding your own revisions to your paper. Otherwise, all your changes will appear in a different color. However, if this happens, you can always repeat the process above to accept or reject your own changes.

To Turn Off “Track Changes”
1.      Go to the “Review” tab at the top of the document (second from the right)
2.      In the “Tracking” section, you will see “Track Changes” is highlighted.
3.      Click on “Track Changes” to turn it off
