STUDENT LEADER (EMPLOYMENT) OPPORTUNITIES
Job Description for OSD Tutor
NOTE: Student Leader applications are generally accepted in the Spring semester. Tutoring applicants should complete a Student Leader application during that time, although tutoring applications are accepted year-round. Applications are accepted year-round, and the majority of hiring happens before the Fall term.
If you are a Woodbury student interested in applying to be an OSD tutor, please refer to the Student Leadership
page under the Students tab of the Woodbury web portal.
*TIPS FOR HOW STUDENTS CAN GET THE MOST OUT OF TUTORING EXPERIENCE*
For appointments, be on time. For drop-in tutoring, bring homework or something to do in case you have to wait for the next available tutor. All tutoring sessions last 30 minutes if another student is waiting. If you are going to be late or miss your appointment, you must call ahead or drop-in the office to cancel or re-schedule your appointment (call the tutor or the office at ext. 232.) After 2 late shows (up to 15 minutes) or 2 missed appointments, you will lose the privilege of scheduling tutoring sessions (but you may still drop-in based on tutor availability.)
Bring to the tutoring session any assigned material, a copy of the assignment, notes, books, and anything you already have written or tried to solve. (You may also bring your laptop computer.)
Expect to work! You are the one being ultimately graded for your class. The tutor is there to help YOU to understand, perform, and/or write better, not to proofread your work and make corrections or solve everything for you.
Consider dropping in or making appointments on a regular basis so that you can work on all aspects of your work for different classes.
You may request a certain tutor, but you might be assigned to another based on availability. Understand that all our tutors have been trained, are qualified, and equally capable.
Consider working with the same tutor on a regular basis—even if only for half hour sessions so that the tutor can become familiar with your work and be even more helpful.
