Common Words and Phrases

The following terms are helpful for you to know and will be used frequently in this guide:

 

GRADUATE STUDENT:

An international student is considered a graduate international student when they have passed the TOEFL, are not required to take any TELP classes, and have been admitted into Woodbury’s MBA, MOL, or M.Arch Programs.

 

GRADUATE ORIENTATION:

Graduate Orientation is a program for students in the M.Arch and M.S., Arch programs. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and current students. Intial course registration is a part of the Graduate Orientation program. 

MA:

Master of Art Organizational Leadership graduate program at Woodbury

 

M.ARCH:

Master’s of Architecture graduate program at Woodbury, 2-3 year track

 

MBA:

Master’s of Business Administration graduate program at Woodbury

 
M.S., ARCH:
Master’s of Science in Architecture graduate program, 1-year track, post-professional degree

 

PROSEMINAR:

ProSeminar is a program for students in the BA, MA, and MBA programs. Students will have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and current students. Intial course registration is a part of the ProSeminar for students in the BA and MA programs.

 

SOAR:

Student Orientation, Advising and Registration is a program for all new undergraduate Woodbury University students. Students have the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, and current students. Intial course registration is a part of the SOAR program.

 

TELP:   
Woodbury’s Transition English Language Program which offers international students English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.  The TELP office is located in the Whitten Student Center.
 
 
TELP STANDARD ENTRY:                     
Refers to students with pre-intermediate to intermediate scores on all TELP placement tests. These students may only enroll in TELP classes during their first semester at Woodbury. 
 
 
TELP ACCELERATED ENTRY:               
Refers to students with high intermediate to advanced scores on all TELP placement exams. These students may enroll in a mix of TELP and other Woodbury classes during their first semester at Woodbury.
 
 
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT:  
An international student is considered an undergraduate international student when they have passed the TOEFL, are no longer taking TELP classes, and have been admitted to Woodbury into a bachelor’s degree program.
