My name is Elizaveta Grigoryeva, but I go by Elizabeth or Liz since it's quite hard to pronounce my real name. I was born in Russia, in a very beautiful city called Saint Petersburg.  My life never was a settle-down kind but was more like a gypsy-style because of constant traveling with my family. I lived in the UK for about half a year, a month in Turkey and Germany, a year in Finland, and two months in Sweden. Besides these long -term travels, I have had plenty of short ones to other places. This caused a certain impact on me in terms of my mentality and vision of the world around me. This experience abroad certainly helped me out when I moved to the USA in 2012 at age of 17. Yet, in spite of all the previous travels I have accomplished, the transition to the USA was something absolutely different and unusual. At first, I have learned about culture-shock and felt it since day one, but as time passed I have adjusted to American lifestyle and fell “in love” with it.

As an IPA my first and main goal is to be there for all of international students when they need any kind of support or just a person with whom they can sit during lunch! I believe in union between all the nations and I think Woodbury is a great place to start since it contains so many varied nations in one place. Let's stick together and face America with a smile and have an amazing year full of great memories!

IPA: Siddhi Nayyar
Major: MBA
Class level: Grad student
Country of Origin: India

Hello everyone, my name is Siddhi Nayyar. I am a graduate student, studying MBA at Woodbury University. I was born and brought up in Delhi, India, and moved to the United States a few years ago. I am glad to introduce myself as one of the International Peer Advisor (IPA) leaders at Woodbury University.

First and foremost, I would like to welcome you to Woodbury University and I am really excited and looking forward to the opportunity to interact with all of you in person; get to know more about you; and also share my experiences thus far at Woodbury as well as in the United States. “A leader is one knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. John C. Maxwell

Being an international candidate myself, I can very easily look back at the last few years and can very well understand and relate to the new international students. As an international student, there is so much to learn in a new country starting from small things like getting a state ID; applying for a driver’s license; opening a bank account; filing your taxes etc., and most importantly getting accustomed to the country’s culture. All of these might sound like a challenge at first, but in the end, when it’s all done, it becomes a great learning for a lifetime. Having gone through all of these myself, I am very confident that I would prove to be a valuable asset to you would be able to lead my fellow international students in this time of change and learning.

To keep it short and sweet, I welcome you all once again to our university and look forward to meeting you in person. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email.

IPA: JunJie "Jasper" Liao
Major: Interior Architecture
Class Level: 4th year
Country of Origin: China (Hong Kong)

Jasper Liao (2).jpg

Hello everyone, my name is Jasper Liao and I am from China. At the same time, I am a senior Interior Architecture student and working as an IPA on campus to help new students joining Woodbury community.

The reason why I want to be an IPA is my empathy with the study abroad experience. I know how hard it is at the beginning and what challenges people face once they land in an entirely new environment. Fortunately, I have gone through lots of issues by having support from others. They offer me their advice, professional knowledge, and company. I think it is time for me to be part of "them" and help out people who are in need.

Let me know when you need me, you know I will be standing by your side.
